PROVINCE INJECTS $5MILLION TO ADDRESS TRANSIT NEEDS
One of the reasons given for the $73.8 million year end deficit was the decrease in transit revenues. The last couple of years there has been a considerable drop in ridership on the LRT due to safety and other concerns with the stations. To counter these concerns the Government of Alberta is issuing a one time $5 million grant. The money will be used to clean and fix the stations, install more security cameras, renovate and repurpose 2 closed restaurants, and other work around the stations. The grant won't help with this years deficit but hopefully will increase LRT ridership and minimize future LRT revenue deficits.
Do you think the $5 Million grant will help increase LRT ridership?
