CITY TO GET A NEW "HARBIN" GATE TO CHINATOWN
Edmonton's Chinatown community is looking forward to the replacement and return of the Harbin Gate as the entrance to Chinatown. The old Harbin Gate removed to make way for the Valley Line LRT construction. The new Harbin Gate was allotted $6 million in the 2023-26 capital budget. Foundations and landscaping elements for the new gate which will stretch over 97th Street just North of Jasper Avenue have been installed. The Chinese Benevolent Association will collaborate with experts from Harbin in the design process and construction of the gate will take place in Harbin and Canada. A timeline for construction and erection of the new gate is yet to be established.
Do you think the City should have included a new gate to Chinatown in the latest budget?
