SHIGELLA OUTBREAK ON THE RISE
The Shigella outbreak that has affected Edmonton's most vulnerable is on the rise and has hospitalized many, In an attempt to bring a halt to the spread of the outbreak the City is extending the number of temporary washroom trailer facilities that will remain open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, in an effort to minimize the spread of the disease.
In addition to the temporary washroom facilities members from the city, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Health, Alberta Community and Social Services, and local shelters is also mobilizing additional resources for the community. This task force will meet weekly and monitor the case numbers and impact of the additional resources.
In spite of the rise among the homeless the risk to the general public remains low.
