NAIT's culinary program is highly regarded and for over two decades culinary students have prepared a Thanksgiving dinner for homeless people. This year about 30 NAIT culinary students have volunteered to prepare the ‘Friendship Feast' which will be hosted by Boyle Street Community Services and Bissell Centre on Monday, October 9.

Boyle Street Community Services (BSCS) did not renew their lease for the building that has been their home since 1996. As of Tuesday, October 3rd, services and staff will resume operation in five different spots, with the majority of programs will operate out of the Bissell Centre. The remaining programs and services will be offered through one of the other four locations described in the Global News article below.
For the past 27 years Boyle Street has offered its services from its current location on 105 Avenue. The Boyle Street building was originally an old warehouse and was never ideal for the programs offered and is long past its best before date so plans were underway to build a new site. The schedule for the move has now been pushed ahead because the current owners of the building, the Oilers Entertainment Group plan to redevelop the area where the building is. Details will be soon be clarified as to the timetable for the move and how it will effect the services offered.
In November 2022 the appeal was revoked but it has now been upheld and construction on the property at 107A Avenue and 101 Street will proceed this summer.
The centre will be the new headquarters for BSCS employees and will deliver services to people living downtown but will not be a shelter.
Boyle Street Community Services received the necessary permit and reached 80% of its fund raising goal and can now proceed with its Okimaw Peyesiw Kamik (OPK), also called King Thunderbird Centre. Although it won't be a shelter it will supply support services to thousands.
Boyle Street community Services says it has received the proper zoning for a premises at 10119 81 Ave. Some businesses in the area support the proposal while still have many questions that need answers. The community consultation process has just begun and a town hall meeting is scheduled for December 13th
If approved the hub hopes to open in the early spring 2023.

What was thought to be a new home for the okimaw peyesew kamik – King Thunderbird Centre will not happen as planned due to a zoning conflict. BOYLE STREET COMMUNITY SERVICES (BSCS) says the facility they are now in is in disrepair and they need a new building to serve the growing number of homeless in Edmonton. Now that the permit has been revoked they are looking for another site, possibly out of the area.
