Owning a taxi license was once thought to be a viable business venture but increased competition from ride sharing alternatives, rising fuel costs and inflation have made it difficult to make a living. Although costs for operating a taxi have continued to rise taxi fares have not increased in Edmonton since 2007 so formal application was made in March to increase ride fares.
