What began as a dialogue between Indigenous elders and city officials is now on public display in City Hall. A number of Indigenous artists have depicted the spirit of kinship between In Indigenous people and Edmonton.

I've contacted City Hall and the Indigenous to find out how long the Indigenous Framework will be on display but the closest I came was probably until the end of June. If you want to see this display I encourage to make your way down to City Hall as soon as you can.

• The week at City Hall kicks off this morning with a Community and Public Services Committee meeting at 9:30 am to discuss a proposed bylaw about fireworks, a report on free admission to City recreation centres for youth drop-in activities, and a proposed sidewalk maintenance framework, amongst other things
• Tuesday, the Agenda Review Committee meets at 9:00 am, followed by an Urban Planning Committee meeting at 9:30 am. The Urban Planning Committee will discuss 102 Ave LRT Pedestrian Crossing Recommendations. The City is considering closing 102 Avenue to cars between 99 Street and 100 Street. City Administration recommends piloting the closure before fully committing. The Committee will also discuss River Valley Planning Modernization, as planning for most of the lands in the area is more than 30 years old. There seems to be no mention of how establishing an urban national park would factor in.
• On Wednesday, at 9:30 am, there will be an Executive Committee meeting to discuss a confidential settlement related to the 50th Street Grade Separation Project. The Committee will also discuss possible amendments to the retroactive municipal tax relief policy, such as increasing the amount of relief from $1,000 to $5,000 when the City has made a substantial error or the property is rendered uninhabitable. Administration will also present a report on municipal tax relief, not related to the aforementioned bylaw, in which they recommend no relief for property owners.

• There is only one meeting at City Hall this week. The Agenda Review Committee will meet Tuesday at 9:00 am, and these meetings are generally scheduled for just 30 minutes. Council will then take the rest of the week off. Just because they’re on a break doesn’t mean we will be, though. Hopefully, we will have some exciting news in your inbox this week!
• The weather is warming up and, on Saturday, the Spring Festival will take place at Manchester Square. Come with the kids and enjoy food trucks, lawn games, live music from local bands, and more. We are excited it’s no longer winter and we can have in-person events again. This event is free, but there will be items available for purchase from a variety of vendors as well as a beer garden.
• Starting May 1st, the alcohol in parks pilot project will begin again, this time with expanded locations. Between the hours of 11:00 am and 9:00 pm, people will be able to drink at 124 picnic sites in 18 different parks. While we’re happy to see people being treated more like adults, you will still be unable to walk around the park with your beverage. Why make this so bureaucratic?

• There is action again at City Hall after a brief adjournment last week. There will be a City Council meeting on Monday from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm to discuss a rather large agenda which includes capital budget updates for the 50 Street CP Rail Grade Separation, 124 Street Renewal, and the bridge to nowhere - the Edmonton-Strathcona County Pedestrian Bridge. The rail crossing at 50 Street is estimated to have increased in cost by more than $34 million.
• Tuesday will begin with the Agenda Review Committee meeting at 8:00 am, followed by a resumption of the previously mentioned City Council meeting from 9:30 am until noon. Following that, there will be a City Council Public Hearing from 1:30 pm to 9:00 pm to discuss several zoning amendments and a closure of 156 Street SW in the Chapelle Neighbourhood. If the Council meeting doesn't finish, it will resume Wednesday at 9:30 am.
• On Thursday, there will be a Non-Regular Meeting of the Community and Public Services Committee at 9:30 am to discuss appointments to several boards and commissions the Committee oversees. Finally, on Friday, the Urban Planning Committee will hold a non-regular meeting at 9:30 am to appoint members to its boards and commissions, and at 1:30 pm, the Executive Committee will hold a meeting for the same purpose.
