Sumar Uppal's mom saw an ad from Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club last summer and suggested Sumar consider signing up for the learn-to-paddle group which he did. In a matter of weeks officials recognized his skill level and advanced him to the premier team. He first trained for the national selection camp in October and in May found out he had been selected for the under 16 junior national team representing Canada in Thailand. Sumar is the first person from India to represent Canada in the sport. Way to go Sumar!
