Mayor Sohi thinks the Edmonton Police Commission is outdated but he isn't prepared to offer an alternative, as yet. Although City Council is responsible for allocating resources to EPS they are accountable to the Police Commission.
For too long the residents of Chinatown have experienced various types of crime and sensed they were neglected. Their concern has been aired and Mayor Sohi has responded with a plan to curb crime and clean up the neighbourhood.
Its been a long time since I was in school and studied the roles of various levels of government but from what I recall its seems the lines have been blurred and crossed many times. The following article serves to illustrate a very important and relevant question, that being what jurisdiction do various levels of government have?

As with most controvercial issus there are TWO prevailing (dipole) perspectives regarding gor't authority/jurisdiction... namely "centralized (big) government) is best" VS "decentralized gov't (small/local) governemnt is best". My perspective on determining governent authority is; the more localized the issue (ie. my personal choice for me and myself, my family and my community), the more localized the government reach MUST be.
