HEAD COUNT TO PROVIDE NEW INFORMATION REGARDING NUMBERS OF HOMELESS

Street counts of the homeless are normally conducted every two years but none have been conducted since 2018 because of Covid. Getting an accurate count is a difficult undertaking but hundreds of volunteers set out on Wednesday to do just that. conduct a count that is as accurate as possible. The 2018 count showed 2,149 people were experiencing homelessness and the current by-name list shows 2,700. The numbers of homeless are thought to have grown substantially and the count will provide a more accurate assessment.
