PEDWAY ENTRAPMENT

It sounds like the name of a thriller novel or scary movie but it really is nothing more than highlighting a problem people have encountered with Edmonton's pedway system. Edmonton has d approximately 13 kilometres of walkways linking more than 40 buildings and parkades. City maps say pedways are open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays unless stated otherwise. Some pedways are owned and managed by property owners who kept their pedways open the same hours for years. However the past couple of years many incidents prompted the building owners to cut back the hours the pedways were open.

For building owners' pedways to maintain the same hours as the city pedways would require increased security which means increased costs, something  neither the building owners or businesses who rent space are willing to pay, as yet.Who should cover the costs of additional security?
