CITY'S APPROACH PUSHING HOMELESS TO FIND NEW CAMPSITES

The city of Edmonton and housing agency Homeward Trust estimate that more than 2,750 people have no permanent home and almost 1,300 people are sleeping outside or in shelters on any given night and how to effectively deal with these numbers remains a priority. A lot of effort has been expended to prevent huge encampments like Camp Pekiwewin in Rossdale and the Peace Camp in Old Strathcona don't grow exponentially to a point where they can't be controlled anymore. AS the camps are broken up they move and are set up elsewhere.
